I learned how to knit flowers a couple weeks ago and recently managed to adjust it in order to give variations to it. These flowers are very simple - basically just the outline. This pattern is done in multiples of 7 + 1. One set of 7 equals one petal, so I recommend starting at 36 stitches; this will create a five petal flower.

Instructions
These are instructions to make the six petaled flower. I think they look prettier.
1) Cast on 43 sts.
2) Begin pattern by k1, *k1, (k1, psso) x 6*, rep until end.

Taking the yarn needle, sew in the six stitches that are on the needle together in a bunch. This should make the cast off stitches curl into petal-like shapes. Loop the yarn through the holes around several times to tighten it up.
You can use these flowers as small decorative pieces on other knit pieces, or as how you see fit. I attached them to a garter stitch cowl to add a bit of flair to it.
